Atmospheric Corrosion - Steel Pipe and Traceability

Houston, TX

2020

Houston, Texas and the surrounding areas are breeding grounds for corrosion on steel pipe. The high humidity and temperatures, proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, makes conditions ideal for corrosion on steel pipe. Atmospheric corrosion leads to the creation of small holes in steel. Pitting forms in these holes from a chemical reaction on the pipe surface. Without proper maintenance, pitting corrosion will affect and degrade the wall thickness and jeopardize the integrity of the steel, traceability, and manufacturing data.

JD Fields & Company has spent the last three decades perfecting maintenance and corrosion prevention. Every piece of pipe is inventoried and cataloged. Once the pipe is placed in inventory it is assigned a maintenance schedule. It is inspected twice yearly at a minimum. We blast, brush, roll, and spray based on need. All data is carefully recorded throughout this process to maintain integrity and mill certification. At the finishing end, pipes are re-stenciled to the original manufacturing data. This process preserves the integrity and traceability in a highly regulated market.
